What we attend to at the bench

Three focused services, each approached with the same unhurried care. We describe what we find, share the readings, and let you decide how to proceed.

Movement calibration on a vibrograph

Movement Calibration & Timing

We measure the movement in multiple positions on a vibrograph, examine the regulator and hairspring under loupe, and make small adjustments to bring the beat back within the calibre's intended range.

  • Before-and-after timing readings
  • Multi-position vibrograph check
  • Written session note included
RM 460 Enquire
Bracelet link removal and sizing

Bracelet Resizing & Linkwork

We remove or add links using the appropriate pins or screws, dress any sharp edges, and check that the clasp closes evenly. Where end links have become loose, we replace spring bars and inspect lug holes.

  • Clasp interior polished
  • Spring bar check included
  • Courtesy gasket inspection

Chronograph movement disassembled on bench

— Why Mainspring Atelier —

How we work at the bench

We do not rush. Each piece comes with a short note describing what was found and what was done — because the owner of a fine watch deserves to know.

Everything examined under loupe

No part is reassembled without inspection. We note wear patterns and share them with you honestly.

Written records for each visit

A short bench note accompanies every completed job — before-and-after readings, what was replaced, and what was left as original.

One piece at a time

We do not run a high-volume queue. Each appointment receives the full attention of the bench.

Clear conversation first

For longer work, the first appointment sets expectations and scope. Nothing proceeds without your agreement.

Appropriate tools for each calibre

We source the correct staking sets, escapement tools, and cleaning solutions for the movement type — not a one-method workshop.

Is your watch running a little off?

Bring it in for a look. There is no obligation to proceed beyond the first conversation. We simply take the time to tell you what we see.

— Common Questions —

Things people often ask before their first visit

How long does a movement calibration appointment take?

The calibration session itself takes around one to two hours at the bench. We ask that you drop the watch off in the morning and collect it the same afternoon, allowing time to observe the movement settle after adjustments. The written note summarising the readings is prepared before collection.

My bracelet has always felt a little loose. Can you help with older or uncommon clasps?

We work with a range of bracelet constructions — folded link, solid link, integrated, and deployant clasps. For less common pieces, we ask you to bring the watch in first so we can assess what tools and pins are needed before committing to a quote. There is no charge for that initial look.

How many weeks does a complicated movement service take?

The bench service for complicated movements is staged over several weeks — typically four to eight depending on parts availability and the complexity of the mechanism. At the first appointment we walk through the expected timeline. If sourcing a particular component takes longer than anticipated, we keep you informed and do not rush the reassembly to meet an earlier estimate.

What calibres and brands do you service?

We work predominantly with Swiss-lever escapement movements — manual-wind and automatic — across a range of brands. For complicated movements such as chronographs, annual and perpetual calendars, and tourbillons, we discuss the specific calibre in the first appointment. If a movement falls outside what we can properly serve, we say so honestly rather than proceeding with guesswork.

How are the service fees structured?

The calibration appointment is a fixed RM 460. Bracelet resizing is RM 290 and covers all link adjustments and the courtesy gasket check. The bench service for complicated movements is quoted at RM 4,200 for labour and cleaning, with parts costed separately where sourcing is required. We confirm the full scope in writing before any work begins.

Is the workshop open for walk-in visits, or do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome for an initial conversation and assessment. For the calibration session and the full bench service, we set a specific time so the bench is prepared and unhurried. You can arrange a time through the contact form or by calling ahead.

How should I store or transport my watch before bringing it in?

For most visits, simply bringing the watch on your wrist or in its box is fine. If the crown is loose or the crystal is cracked, we ask that you wrap it loosely and avoid jostling. We have padded trays for receiving pieces at the counter and will note the condition of the case and glass before signing it in.
